Huskies Split With Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV--The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday with Shepherd University winning the opener 5-1 before losing the nightcap 14-2.

In the opener, Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) went 3-4, scored two runs and drove in one, while Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) was 1-3 with two RBI in the victory.

Donofry doubled and scored on Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) double in the fifth and also scored a run in the ninth inning on a Ward single. Bloomsburg also got a solo homer from Tyler Gansner (Lancaster/Lampeter-Strasburg) in the sixth inning.

Chace Phillips (Milton/Milton) picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of work with Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) earning the save.

In the nightcap, Gansner went 2-2 with a run scored, but the Huskies allowed nine runs in the sixth inning to fall 14-2.

Bloomsburg, 2-4, will play at Shepherd again on Saturday in a twinbill.
